OUR WEHO West Hollywood Compassionate Network
Connecting West Hollywood and greater Hollywood, California
with global compassionate cities & communities
with global compassionate cities & communities
The West Hollywood Compassionate City Network is an initiative of the 501(c)(3) nonprofit Rainbow Advocacy, in fulfillment of its mandate for Community, Neighborhood Development, Improvement (IRS N.E.C. S20), in partnership with the international Charter for Compassion.
In 2013 & 2015, we produced interactive arts installations [photos] and began exploring the framework for the program in discussions with then-Mayor Lindsey Horvath, with a dual vision of a local/regional/statewide focus and global reach.
Since that time, the network of City and Community Initiatives around the US and globally have expanded exponentially. And new technology platforms have created innovative solutions to enable the West Hollywood program to realize the vision of having a global reach with even greater impact. As a 501(c)(3) nonprofit with mandates encompassing Civil Rights, Social Action and Advocacy (N.E.C. R99) and LGBTQ+ Rights (N.E.C. R26), Rainbow Advocacy is leveraging its other programs to enhance the development and success of the West Hollywood Compassionate City Network. In March 2021, through the work of the international Charter for Compassion and Compassionate California, the California State Senate passed a historic declaration becoming "the first Compassionate State in the United States of America."
The West Hollywood Compassionate City Network joins together with these other California cities and communities in fulfilling the vision of this California State Senate Resolution. |
Our History
We were nominated for the 2010 Creative Community Service Award at the 27th annual West Hollywood Chamber of Commerce Creative City Awards.
And the California State Senate recognized our commitment to "making West Hollywood a socially conscious city by bringing people together to support those with cancer, HIV/AIDS, and other health challenges." "Your commitment to motivating the community serves as a positive example for others to follow. The State of California commends you for being an inspiration to the people of the 23rd Senate District."
- California State Senate, November 10, 2010 As the Resolution states, “The state, along with its 58 counties and 482 cities, regularly empowers and supports compassionate programs and nonprofit services to improve the lives of all California residents and treat them with dignity, with emphasis on supportive services to child and youth programs, the elderly, the disabled, the homeless, veterans, immigrants, vulnerable and protected populations such as those defined by race, ethnicity, religion, culture, gender, sexual orientation and identity, nativity, native language, and related issues, workers, and small businesses.” |
